Frequently asked questions...

Where did the name "Bird Point" come from? While our point is referred to as "Cawley Point" on marine charts, locals have always known it as Bird Point because of the heavy concentration of bird life found on or near the property.
Can we eat in our tent cabins? We would request that you eat at the main Hub building as wildlife on Bird Point are not habituated to garbage or human food and we would like to keep it that way for the health and safety of both people and animals. For that reason we also ask that you store your toiletries, such as shampoos, toothpaste etc. at the main hub building.
What is the minimum stay? No minimum stay! However, a caution from previous guests... "we wish we had planned to stay longer - leave plenty of time for this stop on your vacation..."
If we want to fish, how can we do that? We can arrange a charter for you. You may either bring your own gear and small boat such as a kayak or dinghy, or we can help you get out for a half or full day on an all-inclusive charter. You will need to have a valid British Columbia tidal sportfishing license.
Is there good diving in the area? Yes! If you are a diver, we can help you arrange for a group dive through Porpoise Bay Charters in Sechelt Inlet. Dive locations include the sunken ship Chaudierre, Tzoonie Narrows and Agammemnon Channel/Skookumchuck.
Can we hike the Skookumchuck Trail to see the world-famous rapids? Certainly. We will help you pick a day and time with best views of the rapids at their highest flow or ebb, and help you arrange a water taxi to and from Egmont for the hike.
What are the cooking facilities like? Hub building: Propane stove, fridge, oven, barbecues and plenty of space to work in. House: what you would expect in a house, it is our primary residence when guests are not using it and we are very comfortable! Dishes, pots and pans etc. are provided in both the Hub and House.
Can I bring my computer and will I actually get a signal? Absolutely! High speed wireless internet access is available at Bird Point so even though you have left civilization in reality, you can still keep in touch virtually.
When is check in/check out? We don't have set times but work with you according to your needs in regards to connecting ferries, flights etc.
Can I mountain bike at Bird Point? No. Our trails are not designed for bikes at this time.
